In Kubernetes, what are a cluster, a node and a Pod?
Options
- Cluster: all machines. Node: one machine. Pod: smallest unit with containers (Correct option)
- A cluster is a container; a node is a Pod; a Pod is a database
- A node is a program; a Pod is an editor; a cluster is a file
- They are three different names that all mean a container
Answer
A cluster is the whole set of machines; a node is one machine in it; a Pod is the smallest deployable unit and runs one or more containers
Why
- Cluster: a set of machines (nodes) that run your containerized applications; it has a control plane that manages it.
- Node: a worker machine, physical or virtual.
- Pod: the smallest deployable unit; it holds one or more containers that share network and storage.
You rarely create Pods directly: a Deployment keeps the desired number of Pods running.
Remember
Cluster > nodes > Pods > containers.
