IaaS, PaaS and SaaS: which examples match?
Options
- IaaS: EC2 or Azure VM. PaaS: App Service. SaaS: Microsoft 365 (Correct option)
- IaaS: Gmail. PaaS: EC2. SaaS: a VPC network
- All three terms mean the same thing: serverless computing
- IaaS: Lambda. PaaS: S3. SaaS: a virtual machine
Answer
IaaS: EC2/Azure VM. PaaS: Elastic Beanstalk/Azure App Service. SaaS: Microsoft 365/Gmail
Why
The service models differ by how much the provider manages for you:
- IaaS (Infrastructure): you rent virtual machines, storage and networks; you manage OS and apps.
- PaaS (Platform): you deploy code and the platform manages servers, scaling and patching.
- SaaS (Software): a finished application you just use.
Serverless (Lambda/Functions) is an even higher level of PaaS: you only provide functions.
Remember
IaaS = servers, PaaS = platform for your code, SaaS = finished app.
