In Kubernetes, what is a Pod?

Options

  1. A physical server that is joined to the cluster as a worker
  2. The smallest unit: containers that share network and volumes (Correct option)
  3. A load balancer that sends the traffic to the services
  4. A registry where all the container images are stored

Answer

The smallest deployable unit: one or more containers sharing network namespace and volumes

Why

Kubernetes does not run containers directly; it runs Pods. A Pod usually holds one main container, sometimes with helper containers ('sidecars') that share its network and storage.

Pods are disposable: when one dies or is replaced, the new one gets a new IP address. That is why you put a Service in front of them.

Remember

Pod = smallest unit Kubernetes runs; disposable.
