What is a "Definition of Done" (DoD)?

Options

  1. A shared checklist an item must meet to be complete (Correct option)
  2. The date on which the sprint ends for the team
  3. The list of all the known bugs in the backlog
  4. The vision statement of the product for the year

Answer

A shared checklist of conditions every item must meet to be considered complete (e.g. code reviewed, tests passing, documented, deployed to staging)

Why

Without a shared definition, "done" means different things to different people. The DoD makes quality explicit: code merged after review, unit and integration tests green, no critical security findings, documentation updated, deployed to a test environment, accepted by the Product Owner.

Acceptance criteria are per story; the DoD applies to all stories.

Remember

DoD = team-wide quality checklist for every item.
